Purpose of the essay competition:
The International Treaty «On the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historical Monuments» – Roerich Pact (1935), continues to be a unique and modern document for the protection of the treasures of civilization. It is completely devoted to the protection of cultural property, unlike for example the Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict (1954), which contains a reservation about military necessity.
The contest is held within the framework of the World Culture Day Program on April 15, 2024, and is associated with the 89th anniversary of the signing of the International Treaty for the Protection of Cultural Values - the Roerich Pact (1935), the adoption of which was marked by the real affirmation of the idea of cultural cooperation of all people of the world under the Banner of Peace and the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding lawyer, artist and public figure Nicholas Roerich.
